5
As part of the festivities to commemorate the 77th anniversary of the Day of the Silversmith, the Teacher Rodrigo Espino presented the conference on “Mining”. Thematic development has given awareness to the evolution of the community of Taxco through mining. In particular, humane elements were highlighted, which have made possible for silversmiths from Taxco to have raw materials, indispensable for the making of silver jewelry. It is known that many of the predecessors of today’s silversmiths also were dedicated to mining, which in present time is in a severe crisis and has been weakened because of a strike that has been taking place for over a year among miners in Taxco.
