The Xinaxtli Theater Group of CEPE/UNAM – Taxco presents “The Jaguar’s Spots” at the XXIV Jornadas Alarconianas

As part of the programming for the XXIV Jornadas Alarconianas, the Xinaxtli Theater Group from CEPE/UNAM – Taxco presented scenes from “The Jaguar’s Spots” at the Plateresco Corral, the main stage located in the Zocalo of the City of Taxco de Alarcón.
“The Jaguar’s Spots” is a tri-dimensional spectacle based on the traditional legend “The Marks of Ocelote” which is about a jaguar, symbolic of the pre-Hispanic world, and reveals his secret plight, the history, and the significance of his characteristic markings.
At the end of the play, the actors and the director of the Xinaxtli Theater Group of CEPE/UNAM – Taxco, Layo Oviedo, received recognition from Alejandra Frausto, the Director of the Guerrero Institute of Culture (IGC).

Inauguration of the “Theater of the National Palace of Fine Arts” exposition

As part of the commencement of the activities for the XXIV Jornadas Alarconianas that are celebrated each year in the city of Taxco de Alarcón, there was an inauguration of the exposition titled “Theater of the National Palace of Fine Arts” organized by the Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), mediated by the Learning Center for Foreigners – Taxco campus (CEPE/UNAM – Taxco), the Palace of Fine Arts, The National Institution of Fine Arts (INBA), and the National Council for Culture and Arts (CONACULTA).
With the invaluable assistance from the Vice Royal Art Museum of Taxco de Alarcón, where the exposition is to be installed until the 4th of September of this year, and the Guerrero Institute of Culture (IGC), the presentation shows the history of the Palace of Fine Arts, from its inauguration and its first years of life through a presentation of photographs, notes, posters, and flyers, as well as with programs showing the distinct artistic disciplines that have been presented in the Theater.
With a presentation of this type of activities in the city of Taxco de Alarcón, the National University further consolidated its presence in the state of Guerrero, and promoted the strengthening of collaboration between educative institutions with cultural promotion at national, state, and civic levels to benefit the general public.
The inauguration of this documental exposition was presided by Álvaro Burgos, the Municipal President of Taxco de Alarcón; Alejandra Frausto, the Director of the Guerrero Institute of Culture; Javier Cuétara, the Director of CEPE/UNAM – Taxco; Francisco Orozco, the director of the Palace of Fine Arts and exposition curator; and Saturnino Abarca, the Director of the Vice Royal Art Museum of Taxco.

A cycle of conferences organized regarding literature of gentlemen

At CEPE/UNAM – Taxco in coordination with the Seminar of Studies regarding Narratives of Gentlemen from the Faculty of Philosophy and Language from UNAM and the Silversmith School “Maestros de Taxco,” a conference cycle was organized titled “Wonders, Adventure, and Fiction: the world of Noble Literature” in the city of Taxco de Alarcón.
The conferences covered themes such as romantic fiction through the reading and analysis of some corresponding works in the genera; such as the description of the elements of romantic narratives and their relation with other artistic manifestations.

The Second International Colloquial Cervantenists “Los Sanchistas” at CEPE/UNAM - Taxco

Protected by the Cervantes Cathedral and in collaboration with the National University, the Second International Colloquial Cervantenists “Los Sanchistas” was held on the 16th and 17th of June at CEPE/UNAM – Taxco.
For two days, recognized academics from important institutions such as the National Autonomous University of Mexico, the Deusto University, the Autonomous Metropolitan University, the University of Sâo Paulo, The University of Costa Rica, the Academic Nicaraguan University of Language, and the Sorbonne Nouvelle University all got together to discuss and share points of view regarding the characters and aspects of the novel “Don Quijote de la Mancha,” written by the Spanish novelist Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra.
Some of the themes that were discussed at this Second Colloquial were “The second supporters: fountains for the story of don Quijote,” “Machines, instruments, and animated objects, personification in animals, giants and enlightened wise men,” “Feminine baroque figures” and “Writing and learning: poetry, students, and libraries of the 1615 Quijote era,” among others.
On the last day of activities, there was a presentation of the book “The Aspects of Socialization in Quijote” coordinated by Jorge Chen Sham of the Coast University. Presented by Professor Roberto Cruz, the academic secretary of CEPE/UNAM - Taxco, the book contains the memories of the first Colloquial International Cervantino “Los Sanchistas".

Arias of opera for voice and piano

In collaboration with the department of Music at the National University, CEPE/UNAM – Taxco presented “Arias of Opera for Voice and Piano” at the “Juan Ruíz de Alarcón” Theater at the Hotel Posada de la Misión in the city of Taxco de Alarcón.
With the extraordinary voices of Alejandra Sandoval, soprano; Lluvia Ruelas, soprano; and the music of Arturo Uruchurtu on piano, this concert was a marvelous demonstration of notable talents of Mexican singers that presented works from Mozart, Vicenzo Bellini, Gioacchino Rossini, Ernesto Lecuona, Belisario de Jesús Garcia, among other important composers.

University Book Fair

CEPE/UNAM – Taxco in coordination with the Faculty of Philosophy of Language and the Institution of Esthetic Investigations of UNAM, organized and carried out a University Book Fair at the installations of this learning center at the Ex Hacienda “El Chorrillo” on the 15th through 17th of June.
For three days, students, teachers, and the general public were able to acquire publications of diverse generas and themes at accessible prices. With this type of an activity, CEPE/UNAM – Taxco is able to open the capacity to promote reading and promote the sales of quality works at low prices.

Presentation of “Hurt,” a one person theatrical spectacle

CEPE/UNAM – Taxco and the Dramatic and Theatric Literature College of UNAM presented “Hurt,” a one person theatrical spectacle where Melanie, an actor and dancer relates the story of her anger, desires, frustrations, and illusions.
In distinct sections, Melanie presents her history of rejection and abandonment using poetry, dance, literature, video, pop music, and plastic dolls while exploring themes that are quite personal and ordinary such as loneliness, not being able to adapt, and anger.
From the ideas of the creators, Roberto Espinosa and Laura de la Parra, this “Spectacle” looks to rise above the conventional means of theater. In the play the writers combine video projections with intention to give rise to a continuation of re-signifying subjects, such as distinct interpretive styles in stand-up comedy, ventriloquism, and contemporary musical and dance theater.

Offering of Renaissance music from the Segrel Group

Once again and with beautiful pieces originating from countries such as Italy, France, England, Germany, Spain, and the Netherlands, there was a presentation at the “Revolution” stage of CEPE/UNAM – Taxco by the Segrel Music Group, which was formed in 1996 with interest in recreating the lyrical world and music of the middle ages.
Segrel, the name of this wonderful group, comes from a type of medieval minstrel of Portuguese origin with a category of a team that at times creates their own compositions and poetry such as traveling musicians did in the past.
The founder, Professor Carmen Elena Armijo, possesses a wide range of knowledge of this medieval period, and Manuel Mejía, the luteanist, guitarist, and composer, has been in charge of the direction of this group since 1999.

Foreign Students organize an end of course celebration

To celebrate the conclusion of the spring course, the foreign students of Spanish at CEPE/UNAM – Taxco organized a party in which they shared some Mexican cuisine with each other and their teachers.
During the reunion, the students originating from Japan, Canada, Haiti, and The United States danced to music from their countries of origin. In addition, a group of students from Haiti presented a little theatrical play that was prepared in their Spanish classes.

Meeting of the “Forum of Energy Saving and Environmental Protection” at CEPE/UNAM - Taxco

As part of the “Week of Municipal Energy Saving” organized by the Technical Entity of Energy Saving of Taxco and the Municipal Government of Taxco de Alarcón, there was a meeting of the “Forum of Energy Saving and Environmental Protection” at CEPE/UNAM – Taxco.
For two day, specialists of the environment and energy shared with the public in attendance interesting themes such as sustaining the environment, economic impact for families that save energy, water conservation cases of success in energy saving, Fideicomiso for Energy Saving (FIDE), renewable energies, alternative energy such as solar panels, and farms dedicated to the saving and efficiency of electric energy.
At this forum exhibitors and specialists participated from the Polytechnic University of the State of Guerrero (UPEG), the Department of Ecology of the Municipal Government of Taxco de Alarcón, the Department of Energy Saving from the Foundation of Contributions in Strengthening Municipal Governments (FORTAMUN), the National Commission of Water (CONAGUA), the Institute of Electric Research of Morelos (IIE) and the Center of Hydroelectric Energy “El Caracol,” among other important institutions.

Presentation of Arial Dancing with great success at CEPE/UNAM – Taxco

To open activities this month and to present the restoration of the “Revolution” stage at CEPE/UNAM – Taxco, the “Aferrarte” company presented with much success its spectacle of aerial dancing, a discipline which utilized a double cloth, hung six meters high and which allows dancers to move with acrobatics and dance at the same time.
“Aferrarte,” was created with the objective of forming young dancers and specializes in this type of technique, which fuses contemporary dance with circus arts, acrobatics, and theater. The company has its origins from the beginning of 2009 with the House of Science of the Autonomous University of the State of Morelos.
During this presentation, the dancers did exercises of force, flexibility, dexterity, and creativity, using music from Astor Piazzolla, U2, Vanessa Mae, Moby, among others.

Presentation of “The Secret,” a work regarding domestic violence

In coordination with the Municipal Government of Taxco de Alarcón, CEPE/UNAM – Taxco two presentations of the one act play “The Secret,” were organized, the first in the Veracruz Plazuela and the second at the Vice Royal Art Museum in this city.
Under the direction of Laura Fernández, this theatrical play is an experiment which plots and characterizes people with living a secret double life: two sisters whose family environment is mysterious and gives development to a dark history about the violence of which they have been victims of since childhood, with hopes of opening the possibility to share, through the play, the secret that they have kept in silence which many women have been subjected to regarding violence and mistreatment.
The play was performed by the Iberian American University Campus Puebla (UIA) Theater Group, formed principally by degree students that look for themes of interest related to political and social issues that affect our society, with the intention of getting people to reflect and take action. The UIA-Puebla Theater Group was founded by Guillermo Cabello more than 20 years ago.

Professor Javier Cuétara presents a conference about the language of Náhuatl

In the frame of the 34th anniversary of the “José Guadalupe Posada” house of culture of the Autonomous University of Guerrero, professor Javier Cuétara Priede presented a conference titled “The Influence of Náhuatl in Mexican Spanish.”
In the company of professors and students from CEPE/UNAM – Taxco and of various institutions of learning and higher education in the state of Guerrero, Professor Cuétara gave reference to a number of references of Náhuatl in our country and pointed out the principal characteristics of this organic language.
During his exposition, Professor Javier Cuétara gave a brief description about the roots of Náhuatl that are present in Spanish form of lexicon, morphologic, and phonetic perspective. He closed with a request for the young people in attendance to study, conserve, respect, and learn the native languages that are spoken in our national territory and especially those that are present in the state of Guerrero.

University poets meet in the City of Taxco de Alarcón

With the objective of promoting the union between the university community and the poets that have been or are becoming known, the National Autonomous University of Mexico, which offers a panoramic view that is more open to the creative activities of these university poets, presented the “Encounters of University Poets,” organized by CEPE/UNAM – Taxco.
In collaboration with the Faculty of Language and Philosophy of UNAM, the Municipal Government of Taxco de Alarcón and the Vice Royal Art Museum of this city brought together university poets such as Drusila Torres, Carlos España, Gustavo Alatorre, Eduardo de Gortari, Iván Cruz, Shams Martínez, Yaxkin Melchy, Inti García, Eva Castañeda, and Herson Barona, who all shared a demonstration of their work.
On the last day of this gathering, there was a presentation of the book “Opera Prima” by the Mexican poet Max Rojas.

One more time, and with great success, the Xinaxtli Theater Group from CEPE/UNAM – Taxco presented “The Jaguar’s Spots” at the School of Silversmith Teachers of Taxco.
“The Jaguar’s Spots,” written and directed by Layo Oviedo, professor of theater at CEPE/UNAM – Taxco, is a play that tells the story of the significance and characteristics of the spots of the jaguar, which symbolize the State of Guerrero. Written in a poetic language, this play lets us discover the cosmos of the pre-Hispanic world in relation to the stars and nature through the story of a jaguar that lives in the center of a Star and adores contemplating the moon, mountains, and lakes.

Students from the National College of Professional Technical Education (CONALEP), group from Texcoco, from the State of Mexico, had a tour of the installations of the Ex Hacienda “El Chorrillo,” which is home of CEPE/UNAM – Taxco.
Around eighty students and four professors received an explanation on the part of Professor Roberto Cruz, the academic secretary of this university center, about the importance and significance that this historical landmark has in the city of Taxco de Alarcón and in general for the history of our country.

CEPE/UNAM – Taxco participates in the activities of “The Third Juan Ruiz de Alarcón y Mendoza awards, 2011”

In the frame of “The Third Juan Ruiz de Alarcón y Mendoza Awards, 2011” which took place from the 26th through the 28th of May initiated by the School of Silversmith Teachers of Taxco, CEPE/UNAM – Taxco held various activities.
On Thursday the 26th of May, at the School of Silversmith Teachers of Taxco, participants of the Xinaxtli Theater Company from this learning center had a work session with Dr. Eugenia Revueltas and Dr. Dolores Bravo, both academic professors from the National University, of which they talked about and had an interchange regarding viewpoints about the life and works of the writer and playwright from the Golden Century, Juan Ruiz de Alarcón.
After this work session, the professors received homage for their contributions in their understanding of the transcendence and important heritage of New Spain. Organized by the School of Silversmith Teachers of Taxco, CEPE/UNAM – Taxco, and the Municipal Department of Culture of Taxco de Alarcón, this homage was held at the Veracruz Plazuela in this city.
On Friday the 27th of May, and after the reception, assembly, and placement of the silver pieces by the participants, Dr. Eugenia Revueltas and Dr. Dolores Bravo assisted as judges for a painting contest organized by the School for Silversmith Teachers of Taxco in a way to support the “Third Juan Ruiz de Alarcón y Mendoza Awards, 2011.”
Finally, on Saturday the 28th of May, and after a tour of the installations and the presentation of the “Central Cultural School of Silversmith Teachers of Taxco” with the assistance of the academic secretary of CEPE/UNAM – Taxco, Professor Roberto Cruz, the awards were presented in correspondence to the winners in all of the categories of the “Third Juan Ruiz de Alarcón y Mendoza Awards, 2011.”
At the same time, recognition and scholarships were awarded by CEPE/UNAM – Taxco for those that participated in the cultural courses for children that triumphed in the contest of painting in the children’s category.
The “Third Juan Ruiz de Alarcón y Mendoza Awards, 2011,” organized by the School of Silversmith Teachers of Taxco in coordination with the Municipal Government of Taxco and through the Artisan Foundation and the National Foundation for Encouraging Artisans (FONART), had as their objective to encourage the production, capacity, and awarding of manual artisan works done in silver in this historical mining city.

Foreign students receive lessons in Mexican cooking

With the intention of complementing the formation of foreign students studying Spanish at CEPE/UNAM – Taxco, Professor Alicia Fonol gave a class of Mexican cooking at one of the restaurants in the City of Taxco de Alarcón.
During this activity, the students from distinct nationalities demonstrated great interest and enthusiasm in participating in the process and elaboration of making the delicious Mexican recopies, such as Chiles en Nogada. At the end of the lesson, and once the food was ready, the students shared a table and ate the food accompanied by their teachers.

The foreign students from Chicago, Pakistan, Haiti, the Caribbean, Japan, and Canada spent time with students from the Polytechnic University of the State of Guerrero (UPEG) as an activity organized by the Spanish department of CEPE/UNAM – Taxco.
During this reunion, the students talked about themes such as education, technology, and culture, and had interchanges on viewpoints regarding traditions and customs in their perspective countries of origin. On their part, the foreign students shared their experiences about their stay in Mexico and their growing enthusiasm for these types of meetings that allow them direct contact with young Mexicans.

As part of a series of activities that are done in collaboration with the program of sister cities, a group of approximately twenty people coming from Santa Bárbara, California, United States, visited the installations of the Ex Hacienda “El Chorrillo” which is home to CEPE/UNAM – Taxco.
Before viewing the Ex Hacienda in detail, the Professor Roberto Cruz, the academic secretary of this learning center, offered the group of foreigners a talk about the educative offerings and culture that CEPE/UNAM – Taxco provides, and he invited the visitors to someday study with our programs in Spanish as a second language.

English Students complete their courses at CEPE/UNAM – Taxco

To close the school year with the students that completed all of the intensive courses of English, there was a ceremony in the “Independence” auditorium of CEPE/UNAM – Taxco of which was accompanied by friends and family of the students.
During the ceremony, ten students received recognition of completion of their studies of English at this university center. In addition, the students presented a video produced by them that narrated their experiences here at CEPE/UNAM – Taxco.
The ceremony was conducted by Professor Roberto Cruz, the academic secretary of CEPE/UNAM – Taxco, the Professors Fran M. Frey and Carmen Sotelo, as well as by Professor Ethan J. Hagen.

Reunion of the FONCA scholarship recipients at the Ex Hacienda “El Chorrillo”

Once again, the instillations of CEPE/UNAM – Taxco at the Ex Hacienda “El Chorrillo” in this city, received the scholarship recipients from the program “Young Creators” of the National Foundation of Culture and Arts (FONCA) who joined together here to reflect on artistic exercises for three days.
The program “Young Creators” was conceived as a way to help young people between the ages of 18 to 34, during the course of a year, to help inspire creative and artistic works. In this way, the program offers scholarships to help out economically, to celebrate guardianship, to organize encounters with young creators, and to form self-discipline. The categories covered are: theater, video, novel writing, screenplay writing, studies of native languages, storytelling, poetry, creative acting, photography, choreography, among others.

Inauguration of the exposition of original documents from the Mexican Independence and Revolution

CEPE/UNAM – Taxco and the Vice Royal Art Museum of Taxco de Alarcón presented the exposition “Original Documents from the Mexican Independence and Revolution,” of which is a demonstration of the important registers that the Municipal Historic Archives contain which is under restoration by the National University in this City.
Through the exhibition of documents related to the Mexican Independence and Revolution, this exposition narrates the important historical accounts that form part of the identity of Taxco and the State of Guerrero.
The inauguration was held under the direction of Professors Javier Cuétara, the director of CEPE/UNAM – Taxco and Saturnino Abarca Villada, director of the Vice Royal Art Museum, as well as the Municipal Director of Culture, Marisela Quinto Gaytán and the Mayor Álvaro Burgos, and Claudia Espinoza Gutiérrez, who has done a remarkable job on the part of UNAM for her important work in restoring and digitizing the Historical Municipal Archives.
This small portion of the thousands of documents of which are found in the Historical Municipal Archives of Taxco, were selected by Dr. Rodrigo Espino, a professor of CEPE/UNAM –Taxco and historian of this city.

Party for the professors of CEPE/UNAM – Taxco, in celebration of Teacher’s Day

To celebrate Teacher’s Day, CEPE/UNAM – Taxco organized a dinner for its working group of teachers at a restaurant in the City of Taxco de Alarcón. The teachers that impart classes in Spanish and English were there; as well as teachers of culture, and history, and they had a dinner and shared in conversation and companionship in a pleasing environment.
At one moment, the director of CEPE/UNAM – Taxco, Professor Javier Cuétara, congratulated all of the professors and highlighted how important that it is for the institution to have a great staff of hard workers that contribute to this learning center.

Three movies of Sherlock Holmes

CEPE/UNAM – Taxco, in coordination with the Cultural Direction of the Municipal Government of Taxco de Alarcón, organized the presentation of three films of the most famous English detective from the end of the 19th century, Sherlock Holmes, in the Veracruz Plazuela in of the City of Taxco de Alarcón.
Sherlock Holmes, created in 1887 by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, is a fictional person who is characterized for his intelligence and his capacity of observation to resolve the most difficult cases of police investigation.
The films that were presented were: “Sherlock Holmes in the case of the Waxed Stalking,” where the famous detective is accompanied by his inseparable friend, Dr. Watson, to help resolve the case of a young person that was strangulated by a waxed stalking; “The Vampire of Sussex” that tells the story of the habitants of the province of Lamberley where frightened people live because they think that there is a vampire stalking them, and finally “Sherlock Holmes,” a story where the detective has to solve the strange case of Lord Blackwood, an serial killer that practices black magic rituals.

Welcoming of foreign Spanish students to CEPE/UNAM – Taxco

Foreign Spanish students from a diverse amount of countries such as Canada, The United States, Pakistan, Japan, Haiti, and the Caribbean were present at a welcoming talk offered by Professor Roberto Cruz, the academic secretary of CEPE/UNAM – Taxco to initiate the Spring cycle of classes.
During the talk, the academic secretary highlighted the importance of CEPE/UNAM – Taxco to receive foreign students of such national diversity interested in learning Spanish as a second language.
In addition, Professor Cruz gave general recommendations regarding the lifestyle in the City of Taxco de Alarcón and he offered the assistance of the institution to resolve any questions or unexpected situations that may occur during their stay in Mexico.

CEPE/UNAM – Taxco participates in the academic and cultural program for students of psychology from Chicago

As part of the program in collaboration between UNAM and The Chicago School of Professional Psychology, a group of foreign students partook in a diverse amount of academic, cultural, and artistic activities during their stay at CEPE/UNAM – Taxco from the 8th through the 23rd of May.
The students traveled to Mexico as part of their program called “Latino Mental Health” which has as its intention to complement its professional foundation and to strengthen the learning of Spanish as a second language through a greater comprehension of the reality and cultural experiences obtained by visiting our country.
During their stay at CEPE/UNAM – Taxco, the North American students took Spanish classes orientated to their profession and worked in the community of Taxco de Alarcón. In addition, the students participated in cultural and artistic activities such as dance and Mexican cooking classes. At the end of their visit, the students visited some of most important touristic sites in Mexico City, as well as in other states of the Republic that are close to the capital.

Meeting of the Advisory Council of CEPE/UNAM – Taxco at the Ex Hacienda “El Chorrillo”

With the objective of contributing information regarding the most important issues of what needs to be done by CEPE/UNAM – Taxco during the current months of this year, the members of the Advisory Council of this university center met at the Ex Hacienda “El Chorrillo.”
During this reunion, the members of the council worked with important issues such as the beginning of the third stage of the digitalization of the Municipal Historical Archives of Taxco and the project of the restoration of the “La Casona” building, which is located at the Ex Hacienda “El Chorrillo” and which forms part of the installations that are part of this learning center.
At the same time, there was a presentation by M.C. Alfonso Francisco Woolrich Gudiño, the director of the Technological University of the North Zone of the state of Guerrero, as an integrated part of this Advisory Council, who presented the importance of the strengthening of activities among the university extensions and the collaboration between institutions of higher education.
During the meeting, the Lic. Alejandro Garcia Maldonado, a Public Notary No. 1 of Taxco, delivered to professor Javier Cuétara, the director of CEPE/UNAM – Taxco an official document of good faith in receiving the Historical Municipal Archives of Taxco to a special air conditioned location and well protected, under the safety of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), to promote its conservation, cataloging, and consultation.
Those that attended the meeting were: Lic. Alejandro García Maldonado; Lic. Marcelino García Gama, president of the civil association “United for Taxco,” M.V.Z. José Fernado Benitez López, ex Municipal President of Taxco de Alarcón; C. Perla Cuevas, a hotel owner; M. in A.V. The beginning of the third stage of the conservation of the Municipal Historical Archives of Taxco under the protection of UNAM

With the help and participation of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), and through the Learning Center for Foreigners Campus Taxco (CEPE/UNAM-Taxco), the National Institution of Anthropology and History (INAH) and the City Council of Taxco de Alarcón, initiated the third stage of the conservation of the Municipal Historical Archives of Taxco, a documental heritage that, for its size, could be considered the most important of the state of Guerrero.
Meeting in the Municipal Palace of Taxco de Alarcón, professor Javier Cuétara, the director of CEPE/UNAM-Taxco, the anthropologist Francisco Barriga, in charge of the Coordination of the National Institution of Anthropology of INAH, the historian Teresa Pavia, a researcher of the INAH Center of Guerrero, and Lic. Álvaro Burgos, the municipal president of Taxco, made some important agreements regarding the work that is to be done for the conservation of this valuable historic heritage.
Including more than 400 documents, the Historic Municipal Archives of Taxco has been protected by UNAM since 1997 in the installations of the Learning Center for Foreign Students (CEPE) campus Taxco, located at the ex-hacienda “El Chorrillo” of this city. The custody of this archive was accredited through an agreement between UNAM and the City Council which establishes the conditions of storing the body of these documents.

On the 3rd of May, and to initiate the month with good news, the Xinaxtli Theater Company of CEPE/UNAM – Taxco presented its new presentation “The Jaguar’s Spots” at the “Ignacio Manuel Altamirano” primary school, located in the city of Taxco de Alarcón.
In addition, on the 4th of May the group made its official presentation of this play in the Veracruz Plazuela in Taxco before an integrated audience, primarily of boys and girls of various ages.
“The Jaguar’s Spots,” written and directed by Layo Oviedo, a professor of theater at CEPE/UNAM – Taxco, is a play that tells a story and significance of the characteristics of the spots on a jaguar, which symbolizes the state of Guerrero. Written in a poetic language, this play permits us to discover the cosmos of the pre-Hispanic world and its relation with the stars and nature through the history of a jaguar that lives in the Ring of a Star and who loves to contemplate the moon, mountains, and rivers.
