28th of April


The Xinaxtli Theater Group participates in the Botanical Garden Day at IBUNAM

In the frame of the 20th anniversary of CEPE/UNAM - Taxco, the “Hernando Ruiz de Alarcón” Botanical Garden of this learning center, in collaboration with the Botanical Garden of the Biology Institute of UNAM (IBUNAM), presented the Xinaxtli Theater Group as part of the program of activities to celebrate the Botanical Garden Days at the University City Campus.

 


In the Botanical Garden of IBUNAM, the Xinaxtli Theater Group from CEPE/UNAM – Taxco presented the spectacle titled “Sharing Nature,” where they demonstrated a procession of characters walking on stilts, with costumes made from natural elements and materials of vegetable origins, such as seeds, leaves, stems, flowers, and fruits, one option of elaboration of the theatrical costumes with organic materials.  In addition, they offered their performance of “The Tribulations of a Lizard,” by Tomás Espinosa that narrates the story of various animals that live in a garden.  One day the Lizard’s tail unexpectedly begins to grow larger, which creates a series of problems. 





With the slogan “Celebrating Nature: With Plants There Is Life,” this year the day of Botanical Gardens was celebrated at the IBUNAM with a wide variety in its program of its re-creative, artistic, cultural, and workshop activities.  The commemoration of The Day of Botanical Gardens initiated in 2006 with the objective of spreading the importance of these centers and the strengthening of creating awareness in the public about the value of the diversity in vegetation.

Talk about the life and works of the playwright Juan Ruiz de Alarcón


In the frame of the Fourth National Award in Silver Smith “Juan Ruiz de Alarcón y Mendoza 2012” that was organized by the Silver Smith School “Maestros de Taxco” with the help of the National Foundation for the Development of Artisans (FONART) and various governmental institutions; Professor Fransicso Hernández offered a talk about the life and work of the playwright Juan Ruiz de Alarcón.  



At the “Revolution” stage of CEPE/UNAM – Taxco, accompanied by the Architect Claudia Cota and the Governor´s wife Claudia Espinoza Gutiérrez, Professor Hernández spoke about the origins of the New Spain’s writer, the characteristics of his works, and the influences that he had in literature and theater.  

 



The talk, directed toward silver Smith teachers in the region, had as its objective to offer elements of better learning the historical contexts of the works of Juan Ruiz de Alarcón, of which expert artisans have implemented designs and pieces that concur with this fourth edition of the National Silver Smith Award.

CEPE/UNAM – Taxco’s Xinaxtli Theater Group performs for children from Acuitlapan 

 

 


“The Tribulations of a Lizard,” by Tomás Espinosa, is a story of various animals that live in a garden.  The lizard one day, unexpectedly and surprisingly, begins to grow a larger tail which creates a series of problems.  This play, directed by Professor Layo Oviedo, was presented by the Xinaxtli Theater Group from CEPE/UNAM – Taxco in the “José Vasconcelos” Kindergarten, located in the community of Acuitlapan.  


 


At the function there was a large audience of enthusiastic students from the group of boys and girls who demonstrated that they were content with the presentation of acting by the Xinaxtli Theater Group.  With these types of activities, CEPE/UNAM – Taxco strengthens its forces in cultural diffusion and collaboration with other educative centers in the state of Guerrero.  


24th and 27th of April

The mobile film cycle against violence in Taxco begins

With the objective of sensitizing the population of young people in Taxco about the problems of violence and how to prevent it, CEPE/UNAM – Taxco organized a mobile film cycle “Yes to our rights, no to violence,” that will be held in different educative locations in this city and which began at the Federal N. 2 Nezahualcóyotl Secondary School.

 

The cycle, coordinated by professors Itzel Sánchez and Alicia Fonol, also intend that young people identify the risks of violence in the immediate surrounding and to promote social spaces of tolerance and respect.

 

In this context, on Tuesday the 24th of April they presented “The Girl and the Stone,” by Maryse Sistach, which narrates the story of Gabino and Maty, both secondary students, who after an unfortunate situation, they are confronted with consequences of violent conduct.  Finally on Friday the 27th of April, there was a showing of “It Was Another Maria,” from Promundo, which tells the story of Maria, a girl similar to others, who begins to question the expectations of who she should or shouldn’t be. 

19th of April

The “Perspectives about Today’s Spanish Language” conference cycle ends with participation from Dr. Beatriz Granada


With participation from Dr. Beatriz Granada, from CEPE UNAM, the cycle of conferences called “Perspectives about Today’s Spanish Language” ended at the Ex Hacienda “El Chorrillo,” which included the participation of diverse specialists.  

 


During her conference titled “Visual images and narrative discourse in Spanish,” Dr. Granada, coordinator of the Spanish department of CEPE UNAM, spoke about the different methods of teaching Spanish as a foreign language; as well as the communicative abilities that a student of this language should develop.  



This cycle of conferences which are held through CEPE/UNAM – Taxco form part of the educative and social labor that are carried out with the National University of Guerrero and are taken objectively to provide elements in the comprehension and teaching of Spanish.


19th of April

The opening of the Convocation of the Fourth National Award in Silversmith “Juan Ruiz de Alarcón y Mendoza 2012” held at CEPE/UNAM - Taxco

The Silversmith School “Maestros de Taxco” held the opening of the Convocation of the Fourth National Silversmith Award “Juan Ruiz de Alarcón y Mendoza 2012” at CEPE/UNAM – Taxco; as well as correspondents of the Third Painting and Sculpting Award and the first Artistic Expression and Knowledge Award.



With help from the National Foundation for the encouragement of Artisans (FONART), the Guerrero Institute of Culture (IGC), the Municipal Government of Taxco de Alarcón, the Cultural Foundation of Mario Uvence A.C., and the Learning Center for Foreign Students – Campus Taxco (CEPE/UNAM – Taxco) awarded the Fourth National Silversmith Award “Juan Ruiz de Alarcón y Mendoza 2012” in order to strengthen the artistic activities in this city known for its silver craft tradition. 

In this event the basis of correspondence of the “Juan Ruiz de Alarcón y Mendoza 2012” prize was noticed.  As well as an announcement to share this year the value that the character of this national award will have and will form part of the 25th edition of the Jornadas Alarconianas that are held each year here in Taxco.

 

The opening of the convocation was presided by the architect Claudia Cota, the director of the Silversmith School “Maestros de Taxco,” the governor’s wife Claudia Espinoza Guitiérrez; Professor Teresa Uriarte, the well-known silver artisan Ignacio Gómez, and Professor Javier Cuétara, the director of this learning center.  


In this context, Professor Javier Cuétara carried out the first public presentation of the institutional video created by TV UNAM to celebrate the 20 years of the National University through CEPE/UNAM – Taxco in this city of Northern Guerrero. 



18th of April


Students form the Dramatic Literature and Theater College of UNAM presented Heaven and Hell on Earth


Under the direction of Ana Clavel, students from the Dramatic Literature and Theater College of the National University presented a performance of “Heaven and Hell on Earth,” at the “Revolution” stage of CEPE/UNAM – Taxco.  



This play narrates the story of a group of young people that question what they have done in their lives in the context of today’s actual problems.   During the story, some of the characters decide to be destructive; others make decisions that lead to reestablishing their future and accomplish what they really want.  

 

 


The performance raises some of the problems of identity that young people face today.  In the process of looking for their identity, influenced by the means of communication, the internet, video games, and violence, it seems that this part of the population doesn’t have a way out.  


 


At the end of the play, the cast, made up of José Alfonos Velázquez, Maroslava Figueroa, Omar Esquinca, David Alejandro Gerardo, Itzel Méndez, y Lilian Rivero, intend to provoke the contemplation of the immediate future for young people.  


16th of April

Students from the Autonomous University of Hidalgo visit the Ex Hacidenda “El Chorrillo”


Around thirty students from the Tourist Degree program with the Autonomous University of Hidalgo had a tour of the installations of CEPE/UNAM – Taxco with the objective of knowing one of the most representative sites of the architectural and cultural patrimony of the city of Taxco.  

 
Accompanied by Professor Judith Velázquez, the students heard a brief explanation about the most important historic events relevant to this building compound and then visited the “Hernando Ruiz de Alarcón” Botanical Garden at CEPE/UNAM – Taxco, where they also were able to attend a description of the types of flora, and objectives of this natural conservation space.   


 

In addition to the Ex Hacienda “El Chorrillo,” the students from the sixth semester took a tour of the most important places in Taxco and tasted the principal elements that make up the local cuisine.

Conference about the linguistic aspects of how people from Taxco speak


The way people speak in Taxco is a result from a particular combination of diverse influences that have been received through its long history, affirmed Dr. Saturnino Abarca, from the Autonomous University of Guerrero, during his conference titled “How we talk in Taxco:  Linguistic aspects of Taxanian Speech.”  



After his presentation there was a brief recount of the history of Taxco de Alarcón, Dr. Abarca described the use and significance of words that form part of the linguistic inventory of the people of Taxco, such as is the case of “vaya,” “va,” “pues,” and the vocabulary related to the industry of silver.  

 


The conference given by Dr. Saturnino Abarca, formed part of the cycle of conferences titled “Perspectives of Todays Spanish Language,” organized by CEPE/UNAM – Taxco at the Ex Hacienda “El Chorrillo.” 


12th of April

Fine Arts Concert for all:  Music for Voice and Piano


In an emotional concert of music from Claudio Monteverdi, Henry Purcell, Antonio Vivaldi, Felix Mendelssohn, among others, there was a performance at the “Revolution” stage of CEPE/UNAM – Taxco, with the vocalists María Luisa Tamez (mezzosoprano) and Héctor Sosa (contra tenor) accompanied by the pianist Carlos Alberto Pecero.  


 


 


During the concert titled “Fine Arts for All; Music for Voice and Piano,” carried out in collaboration with the National Institute of Fine Arts, the National Coordination of Music and Opera, and the National Council of Culture and the Arts (CONACULTA), the candidates performed a wonderful show exhibiting their talent to please the audience in attendance at the Ex Hacienda “El Chorrillo” to hear these special vocalists. 




María Luisa Tamez has performed in operas such as “Pagliacci,” “La Bohéme,” “Le Nozze de Figaro,” “La Traviata,” and “Madame Butterfly,” and has won various contests and medals for singing in Mexico, Asia, and Europe.  On his part, Héctor Sosa is considered one of the most important contra tenors of Mexico and for two decades has performed the cantata Carmina Burana by Orff, with all of the orchestras in the country, and under the direction of important directors.  Finally, Maestro Carlos Alberto Pecero studied at the National Conservatory of Music and as an orchestral soloist has performed on the most important stages in Mexico, The United States, Central and South America, as well as in Austria and Spain.  

11th of April


A group of children, young people, and parents of families from the community of Casallas visit the Ex Hacienda “El Chorrillo”



Children, young people, and parents of families that form part of the program “By the southern roads, lets read,” promoted by CEPE/UNAM – Taxco in the village of Casallas, located in the municipal of Taxco de Alarcón, visited the Ex Hacidenda “El Chorrillo” and were able to take part in some activities in the company of professors from this learning center.  

 
  
 


In the beginning of the tour, actors from the Xinaxtli Theater Group interacted with the children using costumes that were made by natural materials such as seeds and dried tree leaves.  Later, the group took a tour of the “Hernando Ruiz de Alarcón” Botanical Garden and the “Juan Ruiz de Alarcón” Library.  In the end, the children visited the pool area and listened to a pair of works while the mezzosoprano María Luisa Tamez and the countertenor Héctor Sosa rehearsed, accompanied on the piano by Carlos Alberto Pecero.  

 



The program “By the southern roads, let’s read” has as its objective to open a space to promote reading and to let people visit the most important historical sites in Taxco.  The group is made up of children, young people from Casallas and other close by locations, where the participants meet weekly.  This group was started by Catalina Arellano, a neighbor to this village, to promote reading in a community setting.   


10th of April

Meeting of the educative authorities to prepare a march for a bachelor’s degree program through UNAM in Guerrero


With the objective of establishing agreements in providing a bachelor’s project through UNAM in the State of Guerrero, educative authorities of the state and representatives with the Coordination of the Open University of Education through Tele-media (CUAED) had a meeting at CEPE/UNAM – Taxco.  




At the meeting, representatives from CUAED presented the objectives and characteristics of the degree trough tele-media; as well as the advantages that it represents for people interested in taking courses as an educational option of developing autonomy in the process of learning, communication through writing, the use of new technologies of information and communication, and collaborative work.  


 


The mission of the degree program through remote offering is to “Provide a program of quality, which is complete, current, and complies with all of the social functions of this level of education (preparation for life, to work in superior Education), while taking advantage of the maximum opportunities of on line learning to promote students’ abilities and significant learning, contextualized, and relevant for today’s world.
