26th of January

Environmental Education Day at CEPE/UNAM – Taxco



In the frame of Environmental Education Day, and as part of the work in institutional collaboration, the Ecology department of the Local Government of Taxco de Alarcón organized a meeting for the education of the natural environment at the installations of CEPE/UNAM – Taxco. 
During the inauguration of the event of which students from the district council of Taxco participated from institutions of basic and higher education, the president of the Education Commission of the Taxco district, Sara Montiel, highlighted the importance of the city’s environment, as well as the consciousness of the citizens to protect the natural resources. 



The environmental education event called the attention of young people to participate in the urgent need of taking care of the natural environment through various conferences.  These conferences will discuss themes such as saving energy and the impact on the environment, pollution in Taxco and possible alternatives to solving such problems, environmental education, and problems of pollution in water supplies in Taxco, among other themes.  



The group of youth and teachers were also able to take a tour of the “Hernando Ruiz de Alarcon” botanical garden of CEPE/UNAM – Taxco with the objective of becoming aware of the importance of taking care of the natural environment and the flora of our country. 


19th of January

The Third Organ Festival of Santa Prisca concluded with the participation of UNAM


The parish church Santa Prisca and San Sebastián, a baroque artistic jewel from the middle of the 18th century, was the site of the Third Organ Festival that began this past September and was concluded yesterday in the city of Taxco de Alarcón. 
With participation from the National Autonomous University if Mexico, and through the Learning Center for Foreign Students – Taxco Campus (CEPE/UNAM – Taxco), the government from the State of Guerrero, the Guerrero Institute of Culture (IGC), the Office of Culture with Taxco’s Local Government, the Vice Royal Art Museum, and some private companies, this event strengthened the cultural life and tourism in this colonial city. 
In the frame of the festivities of the patron saints of Santa Prisca and San Sebastián, the Third Organ Festival concluded with a concert offered by Professor José Antonio Frausto, originally from the city of Colima, who finished his performance with a hymn dedicated to the patron saint of the church.  




At the end of the concert, and in the name of Professor Javier Cuétara, Professor Roberto Cruz, the academic secretary of CEPE/UNAM – Taxco, received an award from the Civic Government of Taxco for the participation of the National University in this cultural project.


9th through 20th of January

“Academic Writing” course at CEPE Taxco



From the 9th through the 20th of January there was an “Academic Writing” course held at the “Independence” Auditorium of CEPE Taxco, organized through the sister campus, the Extension School in Canada, ESECA, for post graduate biology students from UNAM.  The program was designed to help students in academic writing methods in English so that they could perfect their academic articles for international magazines.  The course was given by native English speaking professors from ESECA.  



With this program, ESECA and CEPE Taxco strengthened their academic ties.
