CONFERENCE OF THE
LEGACY OF CUAUHTEMOCTZIN AND NATIVE AMERICAN VILLAGES

This past 28th of February at the
Learning Center for Foreigners’ Taxco Campus (CEPE-Taxco) there was a conference
hosted by the architect Javier Ruíz Ocampo, a chronologist from the city of
Taxco de Alarcón. The conference was about the importance of the oral tradition
and discovery of the remains of Cauhtemoctzin which were encountered in the
vicinity of Ixcateopan, Guerrero.
During this event, which has been organized in the frame of the activities that commemorate the anniversary of the burial of the last Tlatoani Mexica (Aztec Emperor), professor Martha Salgado also spoke about the spiritual significance of the elaborate masks from the native communities of Mexico, and shared with the public in attendance a small sample of the excellent work that is created in these villages. | |

PRESENTATION OF “THE VOICE OF THE EARTH” IN IXCATEOPAN

The “Xinaxtli Theater Group” from the
Learning Center for Foreigners Campus Taxco (CEPE-Taxco) performed in costume
scenes from “La Voz de la Tierra” (“The Voice of the Earth”), in the
town of Ixcateopan during the festivities in commemoration of Cuauhtemoctzin,
the last Tlatoani of the Mexica.
This play, created by CEPE-Taxco’s
theater professor Layo Oviedo, is an exploration of scenes of the myths of the
origins and birth of corn and it criticizes the abuse and exploitation of the
natural recourses that the Earth provides us.
The play, which contains dialog in the
languages of Náhuatl and Spanish, is performed by the Xinaxtli Group that has
grown from CEPE-Taxco’s theater classes and is formed completely of young people
from Taxco.

Today, in the Zocalo of Taxco
de Alarcón, there was an attractive saxophone concert organized by the Learning
Center for Foreigners, Taxco Campus (CEPE-Taxco), of the National Autonomous
University of Mexico (UNAM).
During the concert from Sax…Son, a saxophone quartet, the public in assistance had the opportunity to hear diverse pieces that mixed the force and vitality of classical music with the color of popular music with a performance that lasted a little more than an hour. In their presentation, the saxophone quartet, which is characterized by its chamber music with a Latin touch, modern and new, they performed Works such as “Macondo”, by Daniel Camino Diez, “La mujeres que se pintan,” traditional Works from the Yucatan that have been popular, and “La guaria morada,” by Roberto Gutiérrez, among others. | |

INAGURATION OF THE SAMPLE OF UNIVERSITY PHOTOGRAPHY
“ENCUENTRO DE MIRADAS A MÉXICO” | |

With the objective of spreading the
work of students from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM),
professor Javier Cuétara Priede, Director of the Learning Center for Foreigners,
Taxco Campus (CEPE-Taxco), inaugurated a sample of photography entitled
“ENCUENTRO DE MIRADAS A MÉXICO” (“AN ENCOUNTER OF VIEWS OF MEXICO”), integrated
with 28 photographs that portray, from different angles, the contrasts and
identities that shape our country.
The exposition represents the encounter of four distinct views of Mexico through the photographic lens of two foreign students and two Mexican students: Chin-Hung Chen (James Chen), originally from Taipei, Taiwan; Anna Maria Nowakowska, from Lublin, Poland, and Gerardo Greene Gondi and Migeul Ángel Santin Schulz, both originally from the Federal District (DF), who with this work look to reflect uniqueness and contrasts the distinguish our country. The sample was installed in the “Juan Ruiz de Alarcón” Library of CEPE-Taxco, located at the Ex Hacienda El Chorrillo S/N, Barrio del Chorrillo, Taxco de Alarcón, Guerrero and will be open to the general public for free until the 22nd of March. | |

CEPE-TAXCO PRESENTS
"LA VOZ DE LA TIERRA"

This past Saturday, the 19th of
February, the theater group XINAXTLI from the Learning Center for Foreigners,
Campus Taxco (CEPE-Taxco) performed more of the play “La Voz de la Tierra” (The
Voice of the Earth), in the Zocalo of Taxco de Alarcón.
This performance in costume intended to stimulate the consciousness of the public in regard to the lack of taking care of our home, -the Earth-; by taking corn as a focus point represented as a fruit that sprouts from the earth which is a provisional food for the people of Mexico.
“La Voz de la Tierra” (The Voice of
the Earth), by Layo Oviedo, is a theatrical montage of dance and poetry, with
the actors dressed in mud. It is a story that combines pre-Columbian elements
and customs with texts in Náhuatl.
