UNAM’s Architecture Department at CEPE-Taxco.
2
The relations between the diverse departments of UNAM and the State of Guerrero consolidated in respect to the distinct collaboration of the development of this city. Such is the case that the faculty of the Architecture Department, which organized a visit to Taxco, in order to study the effects and developments of disorderly urban growth in a civil and ecclesiastical surrounding that dates back to the colonial period. This study contemplated the facilities of the ex-Hacienda “El Chorrillo,” which contains important constructions from the colonial period that were used for the production of silver, such as the aqueducts and the cistern.
The existence of CEPE in Taxco permits the consolidation of the links among other university entities and the public and private sectors of the region. One example of this manifestation is when the students and professors of the Architecture Department of UNAM met in the “Independence Auditorium” at CEPE to present and analyze their advances in their investigation and the work that they had done in the area. This is an example of the importance CEPE-Taxco has between the entities of UNAM and the community of Guerrero .

Photography Exposition of the ex Hacienda “El Chorrillo” .
5
This past 26th of May, the community of Taxco had the opportunity to see, look at, and observe its beloved ex Hacienda “El Chorrillo” through the eyes of another: The eyes of the photographer Lorena Alcazar. “Impressions of the exHacienda <<El Chorrillo>>” is a collection of images of black and white prints with traditional technique, through which it is possible to rediscover and value this special place.
The lense of Lorena Alcazar opened our eyes and gave us the opportunity to observe the light that each one of the walls of the ex-hacienda bathes in, as well as to mention: “the beauty of the routine luminescence of which we at times forget because we see it everyday.” Each photograph, as well as being a beautiful image, is a window that permits us to look to the past, and yet is the present, of one of the most significant structures, both pleasant and serene, of Taxco.
The experience of the author is impressive and guaranties the quality and success of the exposition that looks to spread different aspects of Mexico (and that of the foreign) of this historic building to which hosts the campus of CEPE in the city of Taxco de Alarcón: the ex-Hacienda “El Chorrillo.” Alcazar is looking into sharing her photography with other university spaces, such as with CEPE-CU, the Architectural Department, the Campuses of Querétaro, Michoacán, and Tlaxcala, and to include the extension schools in Los Angeles, Chicago, etc. Also, when the exposition returns to Taxco, it will be shown in various local galleries and hotels.

Language Stars is a North American school of great prestige in the teaching of foreign languages to children in the Chicago region and it’s suburbs; its growth in the past years has been surprising to its founder, the professor Leslie Lancry, who has received great recognition for her work as business.
For this reason, her need to have language instructors of the highest quality is more important everyday. Through closer relations with CEPE-Taxco she has created links so that this center is able to send potential candidates to work there. This is an opportunity to help many students such as ex-alumni of studies in Spanish education, such as foreign language and diverse diplomas to form professors of CEPE that are interested in developing professionally in the United States and to teach Spanish to children.
For example, Nayeli Rojas, a student of the first generation of EEELE, was recommended by CEPE-Taxco as an ideal candidate and today is the first to complete with success the exhausting process of recruitment of such luck that in July she will start to work at Language Stars. As of today, there have been ten candidates more that have been proposed and the Department of Human Recourses of LS has thanked and recognized CEPE-Taxco for helping, especially for the great quality of people proposed.

5
On the 13th of June the second Francisco de la Borda Festival was celebrated in the town of Tehuilotepec, Gro., a distance of five kilometers from Taxco, which commemorated the 302 years of the foundation of this event. The cultural festival included the presentation of musical groups, dance groups, and theater groups, as well as a round table discussion about “The mining and birth of Tehuilotepec”.

With his wealth, José de la Borda was able to finance the construction of the majestic church of Santa Prisca in Taxco.
Professor Roberto Díaz concentrated his dissertation concerning the documents that endorsed the historic ownership of the land pertaining to the public of Tehuilotepec. He sustained his participation with documents from the 18th and 19th centuries, that made clear that the actual inhabitants of Tehuilotepec were the legitimate owners of these lands; one of the fractions continues to be legitimate to the present time with a company from Taxco that is adaptable to some fresh water springs. The little over one hundred in attendance were quite satisfied with the information that they obtained.

Starting with its construction, ordered by Hernán Cortés in the third decade of the 16th century, he discussed the use of the facilities for the processing of silver using the “patio” method up to the use of the facilities as a five star hotel in the middle of the 20th century, until its function as the university campus of UNAM in Taxco starting in the summer of 1992. In the conference he highlighted links of developmental activities in the facilities of the ex-hacienda “El Chorrillo” with economic and social-cultural development in Taxco.
To the date, professor Espino commented that the ex-hacienda is also important in regards to the academic and cultural zone of the northern part of Guerrero, and continues to function as the Central Extension for the National School of Visual Arts (ENAP), and the Center for Foreign Students (CEPE), both being an entity of UNAM.
