|
|
CEPE-Taxco, in coordination with the National Institute of
Anthropology and History, initiated the rescue of the Historic Archives of
Taxco, which have been under protection for more than the last 10 years.

In this session all of the documents from the colonial period were digitized: cabildo archives, civil registry, land registry, and justice records, even though the last only had a brief intervention. This arduous work was done by the professionals in history Mercedes García Zapoteco and Erika Peláez Pastrana, coordinators for the Professor in history Teresa Pavía Miller, an investigator of the INAH Center of Guerrero. The historians not only digitized the archives, but also started a restoration process to conserve the documents, which some of were found to be very dirty and contaminated by mold. In the coming month of June of 2010, they will continue the digitization process of the Historical Archives of Taxco. |

|
![]() |
As a result to the dedication of the environment CEPE-Taxco has as an
ecological campus, during the week of the 16th through the 19th of March, the
course “Spanish and Ecology” was offered for the first time. Students from

In the first, students visited the Ex-hacienda of San Juan Bautista, where they could see the impact of mining in the region, such as a didactic farm where organic food is cultivated through various forms of compost, and animals are raised. The students enjoyed the delicious food produced there, such as gourmet chocolate from the cacao seeds and collaborated on the plantation with seeds kept in storage. On the second trip, students visited an English school in the city of Iguala, where they got to know other students. They were able to practice Spanish and the Mexicans English. At the end of their practice, the students visited the beautiful lake of Tuxpan where they were able to appreciate a typical view of Northern Guerrero, as well as taste exquisite cuisine such as fish. The course was a success, with hopes to offer others where foreign students can improve their Spanish with contextual activities and collaborate with programs that support the ecology (reforestation, cleaning the river, etc.), while enjoying the opportunity of knowing natural beauties such as the caves of Cacahuamilpa, the cascade of Cacalotenango, the wells of Atzala, and many more in the region of Taxco which is filled with such places. |
